Magneto, Storm, Psylocke, and Angel tear earth asunder in the latest batch of images for X-Men: Apocalypse, which are essentially screengrabs lifted from the thunderous Super Bowl trailer that surfaced late last night.

Recruited by Oscar Isaac’s titular villain, the Four Horsemen become imbued with a special brand of power at the beginning of Bryan Singer’s biblical threequel, and that only spells all manner of trouble for Professor X (James McAvoy) and his class of mutants.

As the very first mutant in existence, Apocalypse’s powers know no bounds, though it is his loyal soldiers that take center stage in today’s screenshots. Headlining the quartet is Michael Fassbender as the conflicted Magneto, flanked by Alexandra Shipp’s Storm, Olivia Munn’s Psylocke, and Ben Hardy’s Angel.

On the other end of the battlefield stand Professor X, Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique, Evan Peters’ Quicksilver – who has teased of a crafting a sequel to that slow-mo scene from Days of Future Past – along with younger versions of Cyclops, Jean Grey and Jubilee, but will they be enough to prevent total annihilation?

Oscar Isaac’s almighty deity will rise from his slumber in time for X-Men: Apocalypse opening in theaters on May 26, 2016, and after yesterday’s sizzle reel, we have a fair idea of the chaos that awaits.

“Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.”
