Pleasurekraft Unleashes The Darkness With “Defiler”

Landing a release on Nicole Moudaber's coveted Mood Records imprint is high praise - of which Pleasurekraft are certainly deserving. The duo have released their Defiler EP through the label, and its title track does everything that blissfully dark techno is supposed to do.

Landing a release on Nicole Moudaber’s coveted Mood Records imprint is high praise – of which Pleasurekraft are certainly deserving. The duo have made their label debut in the form of the Defiler EP, and its title track does everything that blissfully dark techno is supposed to do.

Greasy, filtered bass lines set a dissonant tone to the borderline macabre progressions of “Defiler.” The track’s long, driving groove is punctuated at every fourth measure by distorted vocal cuts that foreshadow a longer, more subversive sample that marks the end of the bridge.

The other single from the Defiler EP, “No Safe Word,” was premiered on BBC Radio 1 two days ago. Until the EP’s official release, however, it will be difficult to gauge how techno fans receive the tracks of the effort, but it’s safe to assume that the genre’s most insufferable purists will scoff at it for having too much of a Drumcode-friendly sound.

Speaking of which, the official release of Pleasurekraft‘s Defiler EP through Mood Records is slated for March 29th. After listening to “Defiler” in the player above, comment below with your own impressions of the track.
