Casting continues apace for Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant ahead of its arrival in October of 2017. Over the last fortnight, we brought you the news that both Danny McBride and Demian Bichir have enlisted for Fox’s sci-fi sequel, and now Deadline has revealed that Jussie Smolett, Amy Seimetz, Carmen Ejogo and Callie Hernandez are also bound for the stars.

In light of today’s casting coup, Michael Fassbender and Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice) now complete the current – and likely almost complete – cast for Covenant. That’s an ensemble Noomi Rapace won’t be a part of, however, after Scott himself confirmed as much late last month.

Acting as the second entry in Fox’s planned trilogy, plot specifics for Alien: Covenant are still being kept under lock and key. What we do know is that Ridley Scott is hoping to eventually dovetail the final entry into the prequel series with his own seminal 1979 flick, meaning that H.R. Giger’s nightmarish creations (read: Xenomorphs and those pesky Chestbusters) are all but confirmed to appear.

Looking further afield, and outside of the returning Fassbender, Fox looks to be going with an entirely new crew for its anticipated sequel. Indeed, an early synopsis for Covenant reveals that those newcomers will be “bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.”

Alien: Covenant will plot course for a theatrical release on October 7, 2017 – hopefully answering some of those lingering questions proposed by Prometheus in the process.
