Despite his commitment to Starz’s excellent Ash vs. Evil Dead keeping him busy, Sam Raimi is still finding time for other projects. Not too long ago we heard that the director would be remaking Jacques Audiard’s A Prophet, and now we’re learning that he’s attached himself to another film: Warner Bros.’ World War 3.

Based on George Friedman’s non-fiction novel, “The Next 100 Years,” the film will paints a pretty bleak picture of our future, one which Friedman’s believes will include a new cold war with Russia, Mexico becoming an important “force on the geopolitical stage” and a diminished role in world power for China.

For more, you can consult the plot summary below:

In his thought-provoking new book, George Friedman, founder of STRATFOR — the preeminent private intelligence and forecasting firm — focuses on what he knows best, the future. Positing that civilization is at the dawn of a new era, he offers a lucid, highly readable forecast of the changes we can expect around the world during the twenty-first century all based on his own thorough analysis and research. For example, The U.S.-Jihadist war will be replaced by a new cold war with Russia; China’s role as a world power will diminish; Mexico will become an important force on the geopolitical stage; and new technologies and cultural trends will radically alter the way we live (and fight wars). Riveting reading from first to last, “The Next 100 Years” is a fascinating exploration of what the future holds for all of us.

Given that this one is still in the very early stages of development, there’s no word yet on a cast or a writer for the script. Regardless, it’s certainly an intriguing premise for a film and in Raimi’s hands, it can definitely turn out to be something special.

We’ll keep you posted on World War 3 as it continues to develop, but for now, tell us, does this sound like a film you’d be interested in seeing?
