Hiro and Baymax’s adventure will continue in 2017, but not on the silver screen.
Hot on the heels of announcing a High School Musical revival, Disney has issued the green light on a Big Hero 6 TV series, picking up directly where the 2014 animated feature film left off in San Fransokyo.
Set for premiere across Disney XD platforms, the House of Mouse didn’t divulge too much regarding plot at this early stage, though we do know that Wasabi, Go Go, Honey Lemon, and Fred will all return. At the heart of the story is Hiro and his amicable personal healthcare companion, Baymax, who will find themselves up against “daunting academic challenges” and “social trials” after enrolling in the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology.
“Our colleagues at Walt Disney Animation Studios have created a brilliant new world, inspired by Marvel, with vivid, unique characters,” Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer of Disney Channels Worldwide. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to further develop these characters into a world class animated series — full of fun, action and the kind of endearing storytelling that only Mark, Bob — and Baymax — can deliver.”
Kim Possible alum Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley are attached to executive produce the Big Hero 6 series, and it’s understood that production is already underway ahead of a premiere at some point in 2017.
