Those who’ve been wanting to purchase and play Super Nintendo games via the 3DS’ Virtual Console are in luck. That is, if they happen to own one of the New 3DS models.

Officially confirmed during this evening’s Nintendo Direct livestream, the addition of Super Nintendo games to the New 3DS’ Virtual Console is poised to happen immediately, with three launch titles: Super Mario World, Pilotwings and F-Zero. All three games will be made available after the presentation ends, and will feature a perfect pixel mode that will allow them to play in their original resolution.

Other games were shown as well, including Earthbound and Super Mario Kart. GameSpot reports the following release dates for those titles:

Super Mario Kart (March 24th)
Earthbound (March 24th)
Donkey Kong Country (March 24th)
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (April 14th)
Super Metroid (April 14th)
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest (April 14th)

This news will surely be disappointing to those who’ve yet to upgrade to a New 3DS and don’t feel the need to, but it’s a nice bonus for anyone who does own one. However, with Nintendo‘s frustrating lack of an account system, you’ll likely have to re-purchase games you’ve already bought on Wii or Wii U.
