Come Friday, March 11, 10 Cloverfield Lane will creep out of the shadows and into theaters, and today brings forth a slew of images for Dan Trachtenberg’s underground thriller.

Rooted in the same universe as Matt Reeves’ 2008 creature feature, Paramount and Bad Robot’s quasi-sequel bears many similarities to Cloverfield in the way it eschews a monstrous plot and sweeping action sequences to double down on a core group of characters. In this instance, that group comprises Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Gallagher Jr. and John Goodman, with the latter attached to play the part of Howard, a grizzled survivor who appears to be holding his roomies (hostages?) against their will.

Yes, monsters come in many forms, and while it appears that 10 Cloverfield Lane will feature at least one variation of the same behemoth that brought chaos to the streets of Manhattan, Trachtenberg’s psychological thriller looks set to place a laser focus on the relationship between Winstead, Gallagher Jr. and Goodman’s survivalist. And given just how little we know about their subterranean struggles – no thanks to a smart, less-is-more marketing campaign – it ought to make for a much more intriguing character-driven drama in only a few days’ time.

10 Cloverfield Lane will stomp into theaters on March 11 and March 18 across North America and the UK, respectively. Should the formula prove successful, Paramount and Bad Robot may push ahead with a third film, with producer J.J. Abrams and Co. already drafting up ideas for another blood relative.
