Captain America: Civil War Won’t Visit Wakanda, Sebastian Stan Asks Fans To Prep For Heartbreak

Last year, Joss Whedon's blockbuster highlighted the importance of Black Panther's native land for its rich reserves of vibranium - the core element in Cap's trusty shield - but those expecting to glimpse Wakanda in earnest within May's Captain America: Civil War may be disappointed.

Chadwick Boseman’s standalone debut isn’t due to grace theaters until 2018, but already fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been introduced to the advanced state of Wakanda courtesy of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Chatting with Nerdist, Boseman himself shot down rumors that Wakanda would feature in Joe and Anthony Russo’s anticipated threequel:

“I know you thought you were because of ‘Age of Ultron,’ but…it’s not happening.” But that absence will filter into Black Panther’s arc as well, as he becomes embroiled in Marvel’s Civil War miles from home. Said Boseman: “You’re seeing him in the larger scheme of things, like fighting outside of his country. It will definitely affect what you see later. That’s all I can say.”

In related news, Sebastian Stan recently spoke with Entertainment Tonight regarding his upcoming film The Bronze. Naturally, as Captain America: Civil War is the biggest movie on just about anyone’s slate, talk soon turned to the MCU. Asking fans to prep for “a little heartbreak,” Stan spoke in relation to the film’s seemingly controversial ending.

“I think it’s going to be an epic experience for people. I’m very excited for people to hear and see what side everybody ends up on, ’cause it gets a little heartbreaking.”

Captain America: Civil War lands in theaters on May 6.
