Iron Fist Series “Completely Different” To Luke Cage And Vice Versa, Says Marvel CCO

Armed to the teeth with quite the formidable arsenal, Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher will descend on Hell’s Kitchen later this week to bring Matt Murdock’s home to its knees. But while Daredevil season 2 will be stealing headlines left, right and center over the coming days, now that Luke Cage has been slotted for a late September debut, it won’t be long before we’re swapping blind vigilantes to Mike Colter’s musclebound hero for hire.

As the third standalone series under Marvel and Netflix’s umbrella, many are holding out hope that both parties can cook up something markedly different – something that’ll distinguish Colter’s maiden bow from both Daredevil and Jessica Jones. That shouldn’t be much of a problem, according to Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada, who revealed in an interview with Decider that those involved are gunning to create “four different shows.”

Not only that, but Luke Cage and Iron Fist – which recently cast Game of Thrones as Danny Rand – are set to be “completely different” to what has come before.

“Our goal is to provide four different shows that each have their own feel while, again, feeling like they are a part of a whole. Not an easy task, but I can tell you that our team is really fantastic at doing this. It’s still the early stages of Iron Fist, so I’m a little hesitant to say too much more than that. But Danny Rand is a completely different character and the world that he comes from, how he obtained his powers and his skills — all completely different.”

When it comes to Luke Cage specifically, though, don’t expect Mike Colter’s hulking hero to be restricted to Hell’s Kitchen. Indeed, early set photos have revealed Harlem, and that’s a change of scenery Quesada alludes to later in the interview.

“We’re not just locking ourselves into Hell’s Kitchen — although a lot of stuff does go on in Hell’s Kitchen. Luke Cage’s world is still New York, but it’s a different neighborhood. Again, I don’t want to reveal too much more than that, but the show itself will have a different palate, a different feel, a tone. It will sound different. So stay tuned.”

In light of last week’s announcement – via Mike Colter himself – Luke Cage will make his bow on Netflix come September 30. Iron Fist, meanwhile, having only cast Finn Jones in the title role, isn’t to due arrive until 2017.
