Whispers Of The Old Gods Expansion Headed To Hearthstone This Spring

It’s time to make room in your deck for some new minions; Hearthstone‘s Whispers Of The Old Gods expansion is bringing with it 134 new cards this Spring, Blizzard has announced. Revealed over the weekend, the follow-up to last year’s League Of Explorers campaign DLC will introduce a whole host of new cards and strategies for new and old players alike to form strategies with.

Heavily inspired by the eldritch monstrosities created by author H.P. Lovecraft, Whispers Of The Old Gods will introduce – among others – four brand new legendary cards with powerful new abilities. The announcement post on Blizzard’s Battle.net website reads:

Whispers of the Old Gods promises great power, and when cosmic entities from beyond space promise stuff, they definitely deliver: 134 noisome new cards will be available to add to your collection.

These are no ordinary cards! Steeped in the insidious influence of the Old Gods, unknown terrors will give your decks new and bizarre forms. You may even recognize some old friends that have succumbed to the seductive promise of Ancient Cosmic Power**!

Four Legendary Old Gods cards will arrive with Whispers of the Old Gods, and they’re horribly eager to lend their eldritch might to your collection. C’Thun, Yogg-Saron, Y’Shaarj, and N’Zoth all stand (sit? squirm? writhe?) ready to unleash indescribable power upon your opponents.

Yes, those names are going to be an absolute nightmare to pronounce, but it’s their tasty new powers that’ll get players excited. Blizzard have so far only revealed a handful of cards from the new set – all revolving around C’Thun – but say that a total of 16 of them will interact with him by buffing the card’s stats when played, regardless of where the Old God is while in a match.

There’s currently no set date for the expansion’s release, but Blizzard’s aiming for a “late April/early May” window, and will open pre-orders on March 14. Included in the $49.99 pack will be 50 Whispers Of The Old Gods boosters and an exclusive new card back. If you’ve been away from Hearthstone for a while, now’s the time to get stuck back in an effort to practice.
