Jodie Foster has dealt with a boogeyman or two across her glittering career – Panic Room and of course, The Silence of the Lambs – but for her latest directorial effort, Foster will be guiding the Money Monster onto the silver screen, and today’s stylish new poster introduces George Clooney’s Wall Street mastermind.

Set for a worldwide premiere at Cannes in May – the second of Foster’s films to do so, following The Beaver in 2011 – Money Monster brings together Julia Roberts, Jack O’Connell, Dominic West, Caitriona Balfe and Giancarlo Esposito for a hostage thriller centering on Clooney’s TV personalty, Lee Gates.

Rolling out stock advice from his proverbial ivory tower, the picture sees “George Clooney and Julia Roberts star as financial TV host Lee Gates and his producer Patty, who are put in an explosive situation when an irate investor who has lost everything (Jack O’Connell) forcefully takes over their studio. During a tense standoff broadcast to millions on live TV, Lee and Patty must work furiously against the clock to unravel the mystery behind a conspiracy at the heart of today’s fast-paced, high-tech global markets.”

Daniel Dubiecki (Up in the Air) and Lara Alameddine helped whip the script into shape alongside Jodie Foster. It’s considered an evolution of the original draft penned by Alan DiFore and Jim Kouf. Clooney, meanwhile, will produce through his Smokehouse Pictures partner Grant Heslov in tandem with The Allegiance Theater.

Money Monster will prowl into theaters on May 13 soon after a worldwide premiere at the Cannes International Film Festival.
