Cinematic Mode will allow PlayStation 4 games to be experienced via PlayStation VR, according to Sony, with the feature simulating a five-meter screen in a virtual space.
Not only that, but Cinematic Mode also opens up the possibility to watch movies and view 360-degree photos while using the head-mounted device, which is now slated to debut in October for $399.
[zerggaming]Outlining the novel feature via press release, Sony revealed that “users can enjoy content on a virtual screen up to 225 inches (5 meters in width) at a distance of 2.5 meters,” while the likes of Share Play and Live from PlayStation will be compatible with PSVR.
As for rendering PS4 games via the headset, it remains to be seen whether Cinematic Mode will lead to technical compromises. But don’t fret; there’s plenty of software headed to PlayStation VR in the formative days, including Allumette, Driveclub, Gary the Gull, Golem, Harmonix Music VR, Job Simulator, Joshua Bell: Immersive Experience (tech demo), Megaton Rainfall, Playroom VR, Star Wars: Battlefront VR experience, SuperHyperCube, Thumper, Tumble VR, Valkrie, Waltz of the Wizard, Wayward Sky, Xing: The Land Beyond.
