Spanish developer Tequila Works has confirmed plans to reacquire the rights to upcoming adventure game Rime from Sony, indicating that the ICO-inspired puzzler could go on to become a multi-platform release.

Originally unveiled at Gamescom 2013, Tequila’s sophomore effort had been pegged as a PlayStation 4 exclusive. No official statement was disclosed at the time of going to press – the studio simply revealed that it “is working hard to realize its aspirations” for the adventure title.

What remains to be seen is whether Tequila Works will self-publish Rime or, in the more likely scenario, seek third-party support to supplant Sony.

Rumors surfacing via NeoGAF have suggested that creative differences between the studio’s Raul Rubio and Sony ultimately led to the fallout, though such a report remains unconfirmed. What we do know is that Tequila’s Deadlight follow-up hasn’t enjoyed the easiest path to development, after Microsoft initially passed up the chance to publish back in 2013, eventually leading to Sony nabbing the game as a PS4 exclusive. Where Tequila Works goes from here, however, is still up for question.

There’s still no release date to report for Tequila Works’ Rime and taking today’s news into consideration, don’t expect that to change anytime soon.
