It was reported by the trades first, but now Amber Heard herself has confirmed that she’s playing Mera in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The character is an unexpected addition to the movie, but her presence indicates that we’ll be paying a trip to Aquaman’s home of Atlantis in the highly anticipated superhero ensemble.

In the comics, Mera is the wife of Aquaman and former Queen of Atlantis. Her courtship with the hero causes quite a stir undersea as she hails from Xebel, a watery dimension inhabited by an exiled group of Atlanteans.

In the video above, the actress had this to say about suiting up as the character and offered some insight into what her costume will look like.

“It’s interesting. It’s like, half suit of armor, half scales. It’s strange… We’re in the process of building it now, so it’s coming along.”

It definitely sounds as if Mera will be sporting a redesigned costume similar to Aquaman’s, and seeing as her comic book counterpart is usually decked out in a pretty skimpy outfit, it will be interesting to find out what direction Snyder takes things in on the big screen.

Regardless of how it all plays out, with Justice League set to be released next November, we’ll hopefully see more of Mera very soon…
