From Westfall to the rolling hills of Stormwind, the scope and scale on display in today’s new snippets are unlike anything we’ve seen since Peter Jackson’s seminal Lord of the Rings trilogy. But whereas Jackson was calling upon J.R.R. Tolkien’s masterfully crafted novel series, Moon and Source Code director Duncan Jones is steering a video game phenomenon to the big screen – and we all know how that’s panned out before.

Putting that infamous curse to one side for the time being, the clip and TV spot do feature slivers of brand new footage, with the first-person shot of a hulking Orc barreling down on a human being a particular highlight. There’s also a stylish poster to coincide with the clips, and if the LOTR inspiration wasn’t abundantly clear beforehand, it is now.

Rounding out the cast for Warcraft: The Beginning are Travis Fimmel as Anduin Lothar and Toby Kebbel as Durotan, Dominic Cooper as King Llane Wrynn, Travis Fimmel as Anduin Lothar, Ben Foster as Medivh, Ben Schnetzer as Khadgar, Ruth Negga as Lady Taria, Clancy Brown as Blackhand, Daniel Wu as Gul’Dan and Paula Patton’s Garona.

Ducking out of December of last year before shuffling from March to June, expect the gates of Azeroth to swing open in time for Warcraft: The Beginning opening on June 10, 2016.

The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home. So begins a spectacular saga of power and sacrifice in which war has many faces, and everyone fights for something.
