Lucas Till of X-Men prequels fame will headline CBS’ rebooted MacGyver series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Not to be confused with Lionsgate’s cinematic reboot, Till will now assume the role of the Phoenix Foundation operative – one made famous by Richard Dean Anderson in the original 80s series – bringing an end to a long and extensive search staged by CBS. In addition, Joshua Boone has been recruited as Gunner, a series regular and best friend to Till’s street-wise schemer.
Viewed as a total reboot of the cult action series, THR notes that the network’s modern reimagining is to “follow a 20-something MacGyver (Till) as he gets recruited into a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening.”
As for Till, outside of X-Men prequel trilogy, the 25-year-old American broke onto the scene with Walk the Line, before moving into Fox’s mutant franchise. He’ll soon be seen in the lead role for Paramount’s live-action sci-fi flick, Monster Trucks.
Before MacGyver jump-starts a revival on CBS later in 2016, Lucas Till can be seen among Bryan Singer’s massive ensemble as Havok when X-Men: Apocalypse lands in theaters in two months’ time.
