Though the minds behind the DCEU have always maintained that the movie and TV universes would remain completely separate, there were still those that held out hope that some of the small-screen heroes – most specifically Grant Gustin’s incarnation of The Flash – would make the jump and stand alongside the likes of Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman in the Justice League one day.
Obviously, that hope died when it was announced that Ezra Miller (We Need To Talk About Kevin) had been cast in the role and would make his first appearance in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.
Snyder has already touched upon the reasons he decided not to cross-over the “multiverse” timelines and utilize Gustin’s version of the Fastest man Alive in the past, but in a new interview with New York Daily News, he elaborates further.
I just don’t think it was a good fit. I’m very strict with this universe and I just don’t see a version where…that (tone is) not our world. Even if Grant Gustin is my favorite guy in the world and he’s very good, we made a commitment to the multi-verse (idea), so it’s just not a thing that’s possible.
While this doesn’t necessarily mean that Seth Grahame-Smith’s solo Flash film will be going all “grimdark” – and indeed, Snyder recently stated that it definitely wouldn’t – I think even the staunchest fan of the CW’s Scarlet Speedster would have to admit that the show is just not in keeping with the tone that was established in Man Of Steel and is set to continue this weekend with Batman V Superman.
Tell us, would you have liked to see Gustin as the big screen version of The Flash, or are you glad that Miller was cast?
