While Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice may have been a very divisive movie, that and Captain America: Civil War still look set to dominate the superhero genre in 2016. That means X-Men: Apocalypse is going to need to pull out all the stops in order to stand out, but based on what we’ve seen so far, it definitely has a strong chance of succeeding in doing so.

It helps of course that Singer finally appears to be embracing the comic books, bringing in more faithful costumes and the kind of huge action set pieces needed to put X-Men: Apocalypse right up there with the competition. Throw in the fact that it has an awesome cast of both new and familiar faces, and the film stands a very real chance of topping 2014’s Days of Future Past.

As well as returning cast members Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult, X-Men: Apocalypse will also introduce Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Lana Condor, Oscar Isaac, Ben Hardy, Olivia Munn, and a number of others. The movie is set to be released on May 27th, 2016.
