Capcom have released the first post-launch character to the Street Fighter V roster today as Alex makes a powerful return to the series. Alex first appeared in 1997’s Street Fighter III and became a fan-favourite as a brash grappler whose bold attitude often gets him into trouble.

Also launching to Street Fighter V today is the In-Game Shop for earned currency (aka Fight Money) that lets players spend their hard earned Fight Money to purchase extra game content. This can be used for additions such as new characters (100,000 FM each) and Story Mode Costumes (40,000 FM each). Guile, Ibuki, Balrog, Juri, and Urien will be releasing later this year and each will have a Story Mode costume available for purchase using Fight Money.

As the In-Game Shop for real currency (aka Zenny) is not available just yet, Capcom is offering Alex as a free trial period to all players, until the Zenny shop launches. Capcom have also confirmed that this will also apply to any future DLC character that releases prior to the Zenny shop launching.

Once the Zenny shop launches, the free trial for DLC characters that released prior to the Zenny shop opening will end, and players will need to use Fight Money, Zenny, or the Season Pass to access those characters.

You can see Alex in action in his brand new trailer above, and take him for a spin in Street Fighter V as the character is available right now.
