With Preacher garnering positive early reviews after its debut at SXSW, the three figures responsible for ushering it to the small screen will adapt another cult comic. Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Neal Moritz are in the process of developing The Boys over at Cinemax.

According to Deadline, the series is “set in a time where most of the superheroes are corrupted by their celebrity status and often engage in reckless behavior, compromising the safety of the world.” By that mature description, it might not come as a surprise that The Boys will be the team’s second collaboration based on a Garth Ennis comic.

The trio are in line to produce the show, which was developed by Rogen, Goldberg and Supernatural creator Eric Kripke. The latter also penned the pilot script that Rogen and Goldberg are set to co-direct, with the hopes of it being granted a full series order.

Story-wise, it centers on “a CIA squad, known informally as “the boys,” whose job is to keep watch on the proliferation of superheroes and, if necessary, eliminate some of them.” It sounds like the anti-Marvel superhero series you never knew you always wanted.

As mentioned above, The Boys is just entering development and doesn’t yet have the greenlight for a full season of episodes. If that pilot proves to be a hit with network execs, then expect to see more blood and swearing on a small screen near you soon.
