Developer Psyonix and Square Enix have formally confirmed plans to shut down Nosgoth, the free-to-play Legacy of Kain spinoff that first hit PC early last year.
An official FAQ over on Square’s website reveals that the game’s servers will remain online until May 31, though all microtransactions and other in-game purchases will be disabled from today. Those who made a purchase anytime after March 1 will be entitled to a full refund and below, you can find the official statement from Square Enix announcing the impending closure.
“It is with regret that today we can confirm that development for Nosgoth has officially ceased and we are winding down support for the game. On behalf of the entire Nosgoth team we want to thank the community for all their feedback, support and dedication to the game during the closed and open beta phases. It’s been a pleasure to build this game with your help, but ultimately its audience hasn’t grown enough to sustain ongoing operations.”
Looking further afield, the publisher noted that the ESL’s Nosgoth Open Cup will go ahead as planned. As for the official Nosgoth forums, Square will keep the lights on until June 14, meaning the social threads will be taken offline for good soon after the base F2P game itself is shut down.
Currently, there are no plans to continue Nosgoth in any form. However, Square did allude to future projects based in the Legacy of Kain universe:Â “Any future Legacy of Kain project will be considered independently of Nosgoth and on the merits of the proposals alone.”
Take heed, Nosgoth fans – Square Enix will bring the free-to-play multiplayer title offline for good on May 31.
