One of the many complaints/nitpicks/pedantic issues that fans had after watching Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice was that the Man of Steel (Henry Cavill) didn’t seem to bother using one of his signature super-abilities when the situation called for it.
It’s been established that Supes has super-hearing in the DCEU, and in this very movie he rushes to save Lois when Lex flings her from a building – so how come he didn’t hear his mother (that’s Martha to you) screaming for help when she was kidnapped?
Well, director Zack Snyder’s offers an explanation during an interview with IGN that does make logical sense when you think about it. He also outlines a scene which he cut from the movie, that would explain why Superman chooses to block out some of the things his super-ears pick up.
“I think all the way – to me, from Metropolis to Smallville is probably just on the edge of his range of hearing. Also the clutter of the city makes it difficult as well.
We had a scene that we cut from the movie where he tries to look for her when he finds out that Lex has got her. It was a slightly dark scene that we cut out because it sort of represented this dark side. Because when he was looking for his mom he heard all the cries of all the potential crimes going on in the city, you know when you look.”
