New Gears Of War 4 Trailer Is All About Family And A New Threat

Microsoft has released a new trailer for Gears Of War 4 titled 'Tomorrow', and it features a face that series fans are going to find more than a little familiar. Playing along to a cover of Simon and Garfunkel's 'The Sound Of Silence' by metal band Disturbed, the trailer offers us a glimpse at life after the Locust war for Marcus Fenix. Now living on an idyllic ranch with his wife and a young JD (the new lead protagonist and Marcus' son) the footage cuts between then and now, where JD has assumed the same role his father once did as a COG soldier.

Playing along to a cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Sound Of Silence” by metal band Disturbed, the trailer offers us a glimpse at life after the Locust war for Marcus Fenix. Now living on an idyllic ranch with his wife and a young JD (the new lead protagonist and Marcus’ son), the footage cuts between then and now, where JD has assumed the same role his father once did as a COG soldier.

The blurb on Microsoft’s Xbox Wire blog reads as follows.

At the conclusion of Gears of War 3, Marcus Fenix wondered what tomorrow would bring. What a world without war would look like. This is the story of two tomorrows – the one Marcus envisioned, and the one 25 years later, where all hope is shattered as a new nightmare is reborn.

“Tomorrow” features Disturbed’s haunting cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence,” and offers a hint of how Gears of War 4 brings the franchise back to the dark, mysterious and intense tone of the original classic.

At the conclusion of the trailer, JD is attacked by some sort of monster, but whether it’s that of the Locust kind or something else entirely remains to be seen. With any luck, we might be able to find out more about the game’s story and its ‘new threat’ when the multiplayer beta starts next week.

To access Gears Of War 4‘s beta on April 18, you’ll need to have played Gears Of War: Ultimate Edition on Windows 10 or Xbox One, which will make you eligible for the early access period. Open access for all Xbox Live Gold members will begin April 24 and conclude on May 1.

See you there, soldier!
