Universal’s casting spree for blockbuster sequel Fast 8 continues apace today, now that The Hollywood Reporter brings word Suicide Squad actor Scott Eastwood has boarded the F. Gary Gray-directed actioner.
There, he’ll be rubbing shoulders and burning rubber with fellow newcomers Charlize Theron, who is on the verge of closing a deal to play the lead villain, and Game of Thrones actor Kristofer Hivju. The latter of which is attached to the role of a henchman to Theron’s imposing baddie. No details were shared regarding Scott Eastwood’s part in Universal’s growing ensemble, but we’ll update this post if and when new information comes to light.
Whatever the case, it’s yet another casting coup for The Longest Ride actor. Beyond Suicide Squad in August, Eastwood’s slate also boasts sizeable roles in both Oliver Stone’s button-pressing biopic Snowden and a journey back to the roaring ’20s for Ben Affleck’s latest directorial effort, Live By Night.
Circling back to Fast 8, the fresh faces of Theron, Hivju and now Eastwood will certainly spice up Universal’s lucrative juggernaut. Among the roster of stalwarts, it is Vin Diesel that returns to headline the balls-to-the-wall actioner as Dominic Toretto, joined by Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty, Lucas Black’s Sean, Tyrese Gibson’s Roman, Ludacris’ Tej, Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs and Jason Statham, who is seemingly back in business as the villainous Deckard Shaw.
F. Gary Gray’s Fast 8 is on course to arrive in theaters in time for April 14, 2017. It’ll be followed by Fast & Furious 9 and F&F10 when the sequels open on April 19, 2019 and April 2, 2021, respectively.
