Nintendo have announced an intriguing crossover for the theme of the next ‘Splatfest’ event due to hit Splatoon before the end of April. This latest version of the two-sided event will feature the titular hero from Spongebob Squarepants, along with his lifelong companion Patrick.

The friends won’t be participating in typical shenanigans here, however, as the event will actually ask you to choose which of the two is your favourite. Think of it as good practice for choosing your favourite child when you have your own kids…

Once you choose Team Spongebob or Team Patrick, your Splatoon character will be decked out in a brand new T-shirt featuring the character. From there the Splatfest will run as usual, with the winning team at the end of the weekend getting special upgrades to use.

This Splatfest is unique, however, as it marks the first time European and North American players will be competing against each other in a larger setup, which should be quite exciting.

Splatoon‘s newest Splatfest commences on April 23 at 6 am PT and runs until April 24 at 12 pm PT.
