We’re weeks away from the launch of Ratchet and Clank, what might be the first truly great movie adaptation of a video game (crosses fingers). In preparation for the film’s release on April 29, Gramercy Pictures has launched three new movie clips from the animated flick to whet fans’ appetites for the hilarious adventures of the titular Lombax and his robot sidekick.

Based on the 2002 PlayStation 2 video game that started it all, Ratchet and Clank will follow a pair of unlikely pals as they do battle with an evil alien named Chairman Drek, who plans to destroy every planet in the galaxy. Taking plot cues from the video game, Ratchet is still the last Lombax (that he knows about), and grew up alone on a backwater planet with no family.

When he stumbles across Clank – and a planet-destroying weapon – they team up with Captain Quark to prevent Drek’s evil scheme from coming to light. The clips showcase some moments from the story in the movie, featuring Ratchet’s training, Clank’s origins, and the duo’s infiltration of a bad guy’s lair.

The movie has a pretty expansive voice cast, including Paul Giamatti, John Goodman, Rosario Dawson, and Sylvester Stallone. The clips are promisingly hilarious, so maybe, just maybe, all it will take to turn video game movie adaptations around is the little Lombax and his robot.

Check out the clips below, and let us know what you think about Ratchet and Clank in the comments!
