Shazam Star Dwayne Johnson Wants Black Adam To Fight Superman In A Future Film

While we can't rule out the possibility of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson making his big screen debut as Black Adam before 2019's Shazam, odds are that he will have to bide his time before bringing one of DC's most powerful villains to the masses.

While we can’t rule out the possibility of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson making his big screen debut as Black Adam before 2019’s Shazam, odds are that he will have to bide his time before bringing one of DC’s most powerful villains to the masses.

Despite the three year wait, Johnson has repeatedly shown the he can’t contain his excitement. Aside from his recently wearing a Black Adam T-shirt while hosting the MTV Movie Awards, he likes to drop little teasers and such on social media. The most recent came via Twitter, which you can view below.

I have to agree with Johnson that a fight between Superman and Black Adam would not happen in the first Shazam movie due to the simple fact that it should focus on Billy Batson’s heroic journey and his inevitable showdown with Teth-Adam. Beyond that, we can’t rule out Superman showing up in a sequel or Black Adam making an appearance in a Justice League movie.

There is, however, something to consider when we talk about this super smackdown. Over the past few years, there have been conflicting reports as to whether or not the Shazam movie takes place within the DC Extended Universe. If it is indeed a standalone, it is doubtful the studio will let the crossover happen. We should also take into account that Shazam himself has been excluded from the lineup in the first Justice League movie.

If you feel you need to get ready for this possible heavyweight fight, it’s highly recommended that you check out the animated film Superman/Shazam: The Return of Black Adam. It’s a pretty good primer on all characters mentioned and will give you an idea of how they could possibly interact in a live action setting.

Shazam arrives in theaters on April 5, 2019.
