Team Iron Man doesn’t end when the credits roll on Captain America: Civil War, it seems, now that it’s been confirmed Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as Tony Stark for Jon Watts’ Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017.

News of everyone’s favorite genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist joining the ranks of the Tom Holland-fronted solo flick should come as no surprise; not only does the title drop a hint or two about a potential reunion between the two heroes, but Downey Jr. himself has been keeping fans on tenterhooks these past few weeks by dropping hints that he’ll make an appearance. Now, it’s official.

Sources close to The Hollywood Reporter note that Homecoming is now set to nurture the relationship between Tony Stark and Peter Parker, building on the dynamic that’ll soon light up the screens in Captain America: Civil War. Whether this seeds the possibility of Chris Evans’ star-spangled hero joining Downey Jr. in Spider-Man: Homecoming is still up for question.

Since nailing down an official subtitle, Marvel has been casting the net far and wide in beefing up the film’s cast. Alongside Holland are Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and singer-cum-actress Zendaya as a potential love interest. Michael Keaton, meanwhile, is reportedly circling the lead villain role (The Vulture?), while Tony Revolori and Laura Harrier were recently added to the ensemble as two fellow students to Holland’s Peter.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is poised to scurry into production soon after the Civil War hype train pulls into the station. Watts’ reboot has been slated for July 7, 2017.

As for Robert Downey Jr., earlier today the actor teased that another grand supernatural adventure may be afoot with Sherlock Holmes 3, which appears closer than ever to slinking before the cameras.
