Mark those calendars, folks; developer Atlus has posted a Persona 5 countdown website in anticipation of a major reveal.

Scheduled to expire on Thursday, May 5, all signs point to the announcement of an official international release date for the hotly-anticipated JRPG. Once pegged for a late 2015 launch, Atlus pushed Persona 5 back into 2016 and currently, the title is on course to debut across PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 at some point during the summer.

In keeping with series tradition, Persona 5 follows a ragtag group of high school students who stumble upon the Isekai-Navi, a mystical item that allows the main players to infiltrate the hearts of other citizens and seize any hidden malicious intent, going on to become the self-proclaimed Phantom Thieves of Hearts.

Game Director Katsura Hashino revealed the creative team are “going with a challenge that fuses together a juvenile school setting that is as large as life, together with a picaresque romance. In the previous game, we wrote a story that involved having a justice group chase down a bad guy that could easily be feared by just about anyone.”

Persona 5 has been slated for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. Could we be seeing an official release date – and perhaps a new trailer – on May 5? Stay tuned to We Got This Covered over the coming weeks for more on Atlus’ JRPG sequel.
