Avengers: Infinity War is set to be the culmination of the story which began when Nick Fury first recruited Iron Man at the end of his first movie in 2008 and Thanos made his presence felt in the after-credits scene of The Avengers four years later. In fact, the film will be so big that Marvel has split it into two, and according to director Joe Russo, the scripts for the massive two parter aren’t even in yet.
Asked in the video above how work is coming along on Avengers: Infinity War, the filmmaker revealed:
“We start shooting in November, so we’re literally getting the scripts from the writers in the next two weeks.”
When Anthony Russo was asked about the reasoning behind shooting both parts back to back, he explained that Avengers: Infinity War may not actually be as connected as we initially thought:
“They’re both very different movies. We aren’t blocking them together because they’re one long movie broken into two, we’re blocking them together because that’s the way you can assemble the massive cast that’s required to shoot both of these movies and make it financially possible. That’s the reason for shooting them back to back.”
It doesn’t sound as if we should expect a massive “To Be Continued…” title card to show up on the screen at the end of Part 1 if that’s the case, but you have to believe that these movies are going to still be very closely tied together. However, now that we’ve heard these comments, it should be interesting to see just how different they end up being, as for all we know, they’ll each focus on very different members of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes (don’t forget that the Guardians of the Galaxy are also expected to appear).
Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 is set to be released on May 4th, 2018, while the second movie will follow on May 3rd, 2019.
