Civil War is almost upon us, folks, but in many ways Marvel’s bloody brilliant ensemble piece stands as the warm-up act for Joe and Anthony Russo, who will soon turn their collective attention to Avengers: Infinity War.

Pegged to arrive across two installments – May 2018 and May 2019 – the studio’s event film will set the stage for a grand and seemingly galactic battle with the Mad Titan himself, Thanos. Story details remain under lock and key at such an early stage, but the Russo brothers teased recently that by the time Infinity War – Part 1 comes knocking in two years’ time, it could be bearing a new subtitle.

Word comes by way of Uproxx, where Joe Russo revealed that “the intention is we will change it. We just haven’t come up with the titles yet. But, yes, we will change it. And, yes, that is a scoop: we will retitle them.”

Should the Russo siblings opt to stay true to the comics, Infinity Gauntlet, Infinity Crusade and Infinity Abyss could emerge as prime candidates for the title change. Besides, considering that both installments of Infinity War were first announced in 2014, it’s hardly surprising that the directors will alter the title to fit the final story.

Building on the momentum established by Civil War, screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are also on board to pen the scripts for Infinity War parts one and two, when they’ll be aiming to nip Marvel’s “villain problem” on the bud.

Acting as the culmination of Marvel’s Phase Three, Avengers: Infinity War will release across two grand installments – May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019.
