Alicia Vikander’s impressive career takes a step into producing today, now that Deadline reports the Oscar-winning Swede has established Vikarious Productions as her own banner with the first project teeing up a sibling act with Penny Dreadful stalwart, Eva Green.
Entitled Euphoria, the company’s maiden voyage will have Vikander and Green play “sisters in conflict” as they hop from one European destination to the next. Adding to the Swedish blood fuelling Vikander’s latest is writer-director Lisa Langseth, who is poised to make her English-language debut with the family drama.
Reflecting on the decision to make her first foray into the world of producing, Alicia Vikander released the following statement to Deadline:
“Euphoria is Lisa’s third film as writer and director. I have worked with her on each of them and I jumped at the chance to do so again. It’s a uniquely European approach, enabling me to work with a great Swedish team alongside my colleagues in London. It is a profound story about the journey of two estranged sisters, full of suffering but also full of joy, and squaring up to very important subject matter. It also has compelling female voices and is packed to the rafters with female talent both sides of the camera. All these ingredients made this film the obvious choice for our first film at Vikarious. Charles and I will be developing more films in this space over the next 24 months.”
Though she may not have been attracted to Star Wars universe or anything relating to Marvel or DC, Vikander will soon build upon her blistering debut in Ex Machina by moving into the blockbuster space. Later this year, the Swede has a role in Universal’s Jason Bourne reboot, while there’s also the coveted role of Lara Croft in Warner’s Tomb Raider movie looming on the horizon.
As for Euphoria, expect additional casting news to emerge once Cannes Film Festival gets going in earnest early next week.
