Finding Dory Mother’s Day Spot Celebrates Friends, Flaws And Family

Unsurprisingly, it was Captain America: Civil War that ruled the roost over the course of the weekend, pulling in a staggering $182 million at the domestic box office in its path to reaching $678 million globally - aided, of course, by the early opening overseas.

But with those in North America celebrating all things Mother’s Day, this past weekend presented an opportunity for studios to get in on the occasion – one of which being Disney-Pixar, who rolled out a new spot for Finding Dory that celebrates friends, flaws and the value of family.

At only 30 seconds in length, the teaser is designed more to showcase Dory’s plight, as she sets about reuniting with her wayward parents after undersea migration triggers a burning desire within our friendly and forgetful fish to return home.

Joining Ellen DeGeneres’ clumsy protagonist on said journey are Diane Keaton, Willem Dafoe, Dominic West, Kaitlin Olson, Ty Burrell, Diane Keaton, Ed O’Neill, Eugene Levy, Idris Elba and Michael Sheen.

Finding Dory will just keep swimming all the way into theaters nationwide on June 17. Only then will we know if Andrew Stanton’s long-in-development sequel has been worth the wait.

When Dory suddenly remembers that she has a family out there who may be looking for her, the trio takes off on a life-changing adventure across the ocean to California’s prestigious Marine Life Institute, a rehabilitation center and aquarium.

In an effort to find her mom (voice of Diane Keaton) and dad (voice of Eugene Levy), Dory enlists the help of three of the MLI’s most intriguing residents: Hank (voice of Ed O’Neill), a cantankerous octopus who frequently gives employees the slip; Bailey (voice of Ty Burrell), a beluga whale who is convinced his echolocation skills are on the fritz; and Destiny (voice of Kaitlin Olson), a nearsighted whale shark. Deftly navigating the complex innerworkings of the MLI, Dory and her friends discover the magic within their flaws, friendships and family.
