Avengers: Infinity War Writers Reveal How They’ll Handle All Those Heroes

Talk of as many as 60 characters showing up in the two-part Avengers: Infinity War may not be all that accurate, but it’s pretty obvious that the two films will be extremely crowded and busy. Something which further complicates matters is the fact that The Avengers have been split into two, so does that mean each release will focus on a separate group of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes?

Talking in a recent interview to promote the release of Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely shed some light on how they intend to handle all those heroes, confirming in the process that they have no intention of having each movie focus on a different team of Avengers.

“When outlining [Infinity War], we certainly had those conversations. In the same way that in Civil War, not everyone has the same amount of scenes or lines. I think that you can assume that with so many characters [in Infinity War], we’ll have to be as rigorous.

Certain characters will have larger stories and others will have smaller stories and hopefully they can flip in some cases – I know a few right off the top of my head, that have a small part [in one movie] and a bigger part [in the other movie]. The people in the background in one, might come to the foreground in the other. There are moments where every damn person who’s still alive will be in the same room and [those scenes] are just a nightmare to write because Marvel is very good about hiring good actors. It’s like the 15th person in the scene has two Oscars. So, yeah, it’s crazy.”

That explanation definitely makes sense, and Captain America: Civil War proved that these two – and the Russo Brothers – know how to handle a large ensemble cast. What’s going to be really interesting is seeing which characters they choose to focus on in each movie, but it sounds as if those who don’t get the spotlight in the first instalment definitely will in the second.

Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 is set to be released on May 4th, 2018, while the second part will follow on May 3rd, 2019.
