Hollywood veterans Morgan Freeman and Tommy Lee Jones are primed for a reunion with Villa Capri, the action comedy in the works at Sierra/Affinity, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Not since 2003’s Hollywood Homicide have the Oscar-winning duo shared the screen, but that all changes with this bankable FBI romp. Penned by Ron Shelton (Bull DurhamWhite Men Can’t Jump), Villa Capri revolves around an ex-FBI agent and ex-mob boss, two sworn enemies from the get-go, who in a fit of panic are forced to place old rivalries on the back-burner after they’re targeted by the mob while shooting a round of golf.

THR didn’t disclose which roles Freeman and Jones are linked to, but the latter’s gruff, taciturn demeanour ought to make for some rip-roaring entertainment opposite Freeman. Citing Midnight Run as inspiration, Ron Shelton is also attached to helm Villa Capri, as Sierra/Affinity targets a summer shoot in New Mexico. Plans are in place for the action-comedy to be shopped around at Cannes over the course of the weekend, though it’s understood eOne has already acquired distribution rights for the U.K., Canada, Spain, Australia and New Zealand.

With Morgan Freeman and Tommy Lee Jones now in line to star, expect Villa Capri to pick up steam fairly quickly. Bill Gerber and Steve Richards are on board to produce, with Richards’ banner Endurance Media financing in tandem with eONe.

Beyond that, Freeman can next be seen in this summer’s Now You See Me 2, while Tommy Lee Jones is one of the newcomers joining Universal’s action franchise in time for July’s Jason Bourne reboot.
