Deadline is reporting today that Liam Neeson is set to star in a new thriller titled In Order of Disappearance. A remake of the hit Norwegian film, Hans Petter Molland, who helmed the original, will be behind the camera here as well, with Frank Baldwin on scripting duties.
Neeson will take on the role that Stellan Skarsgard had in the 2014 version, that of a snowplow driver whose son is murdered. Though it’s made to look like an overdose, the death actually came at the hands of some drug dealers, which Neeson’s character discovers.
You can probably guess where this one is heading, right? Cue yet another Taken-esque action thriller in which the actor sets out to find those responsible and get his revenge. There will presumably be a lot of barking, yelling and neck snapping as the actor makes his way through countless, nameless bad guys, before ultimately taking down the primary antagonist.
If you’re thinking that nothing about this project sounds even remotely exciting, you’re not alone. Though the saying goes “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” I think we’re past that point with Neeson. He’s been continuously pumping out more or less the same movie for years now, and while he’s well suited to the part of grizzled old action hero, how many times do we need to see him play the same role?
