Back when it became apparent that we would see two Quicksilvers on the big screen at the same time, fans delighted in claiming that Fox’s decision to include the speedster in X-Men: Days of Future Past was little more than a petty response to Marvel including him in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Well, for those who don’t know, it actually came about because the character (and his sister, the Scarlet Witch) have been members of the X-Men and Avengers in the past, allowing them to appear in both film franchises. However, what no one expected was for Evan Peters’ take on Quicksilver to end up overshadowing Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s.
The MCU version ultimately ended up being killed off, so there’s now no way to compare them when the son of Magneto returns in X-Men: Apocalypse, and Peters is actually pretty disappointed about that.
“I was devastated by it. I really wanted that to keep going. I thought it was cool. I don’t really know why they killed him off. I liked what they did with it, it was different. It was a completely different take on it. He had the Russian accent. I mean, they had this swoopy thing with the lines behind, which I thought was really cool, and I don’t know. I thought it was a cool character.”
In case you forgot, Peters and Johnson actually starred in Kick-Ass together, and it sounds like the X-Men: Apocalypse star was hoping to see some sort of friendly rivalry continue:
“I thought it could have been a cool competition. Like, ‘Oh, they did that with him and that was awesome. Now we’ve got to try to top that with this.’ It could have been a nice little, I don’t know, motivation.”
It really would have been a lot of fun to compare these characters moving forward, and with no sign of the Scarlet Witch (a character of course played by Elizabeth Olsen in Captain America: Civil War) in X-Men: Apocalypse, we may have quite some time to wait before we get the unique opportunity to do it again.
