Capcom’s remaster of Resident Evil 0 has sold a respectable 800,000 units since launching in January of this year, the company has announced as part of its latest earning’s report (via GameSpot). Originally released in 2002 for the Nintendo GameCube, Zero tells the story of Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen as they explore a zombie-infested facility owned by Umbrella in the hours directly preceding the events of the first Resident Evil.

The number of announced sales only account for Capcom’s previous financial year which ended on March 31, so the actual number is likely to be a tad higher than what’s been confirmed. Sales of Resident Evil Origins Collection – a physical release that includes remasters of Zero and Resident Evil HD Remaster – likely haven’t been included either, as the earning’s report specifically mentions digital sales.

Either way, it’s clear that Resi fans still have a soft spot for the vintage stop-and-shoot mechanics of the old games, as well as the pre-rendered landscapes and cheesy acting that have come to personify the series over the years. The 800,000 figure will no doubt ratify Capcom’s decision to develop a Resident Evil 2 Remake, which we know is currently going well.

With Resident Evil 7 potentially on the horizon, there’s never been a better time to love shooting the undead in the face.
