Prometheus and Child 44 actress Noomi Rapace has opened talks to board David Ayer’s supernatural crime drama Bright, Variety has learned.

Should a deal place, the Swede would star opposite Will Smith and Joel Edgerton in the movie, which fast became one of the hottest packages in Hollywood before finding a home at Netflix in a deal said to have be worth north of $90 million.

Pitched as a buddy cop film in the vein of David Ayer’s End of Watch, Bright hails from Chronicle scribe Max Landis and is rooted in a fantasy realm where humans and Orcs co-exist. No details were given regarding Rapace’s role in the feature, though we do understand Smith’s human cop and Edgerton’s belligerent Orc will be the duo anchoring the story.

“The setting is a world where magical creatures live side by side with humans and the police have a division handling crimes involving magic. A human cop (Smith) is forced to work with an Orc (Edgerton) to find something that unsavory elements are prepared to kill for — a powerful wand.”

It sparked a competitive bidding war soon after announcement, but now that Bright has secured distribution via Netflix and an A-list cast in Will Smith, Joel Edgerton and now Noomi Rapace, it’s expected David Ayer’s atypical procedural will enter production at some stage in the fall.

Before that, Ayer, Smith and the rest of Task Force X will team for Suicide Squad, while Edgerton is currently on board the American Express. Rapace, meanwhile, has a role in Tommy Wirkola’s What Happened to Monday.
