Captain America: Civil War Is 2016’s Highest Grossing Film

Well, that didn't take too long. Despite the fact that it only released less than a month ago, Captain America: Civil War has taken the box office by storm, earning the title of 2016's highest grossing film with an incredible worldwide total of $981.9 million - and that number will definitely be going up in the weeks to come.

Well, that didn’t take too long. Despite the fact that it only released less than a month ago, Captain America: Civil War has taken the box office by storm, earning the title of 2016’s highest grossing film with an incredible worldwide total of $981.9 million – and that number will definitely be going up in the weeks to come.

X-Men: Apocalypse has proven to be a middling affair, and though it will still pull in a healthy chunk of money, the next big box office threat probably won’t arrive until June 10th in the form of Warcraft, meaning Cap’s third solo outing still has a long time to keep racking up the dollars.

Domestically speaking, the film is still trailing behind Deadpool, which has $362.5 million compared to Civil War‘s $310.5 million. It will likely surpass the Merc with a Mouth though in the weeks to come, as like we said above, it doesn’t appear to be slowing down any time soon. The question now is simply whether or not any other film will top Marvel’s behemoth this year?

Of course, the most likely candidates to out-gross Civil War are probably Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Of the two, Rogue One has the best chance of dethroning Captain America, but who knows? It’s too early to tell at this point and for now, we should all just be happy to see that Captain America: Civil War is getting all the success it deserves.
