The first teaser trailer for Star Trek Beyond faced quite a bit of backlash, with longtime fans and even those involved with the franchise in some way criticizing what essentially looked like Fast and Furious in space. Thankfully, Paramount’s latest effort made the movie’s tone a lot clearer, and despite the fact that it’s Justin Lin at the helm, it definitely looks like classic Trek.
Further emphasizing that is a brand new gallery of images which put the spotlight on Star Trek Beyond‘s impressive cast and give us a great new look at the locations that the crew of the Enterprise will be visiting in the movie (which is being released this year to coincide with the franchise’s 50th Anniversary).
Based on what we’ve learned from both the trailers and images like these, Star Trek Beyond will revolve around the crew of the Enterprise being stranded on an alien planet after they’re attacked by Idris Elba’s rather sinister looking alien bad guy. As a result, it’s going to be up to Captain Kirk to save his friends, something which will push the character to his limits.
Following in the footsteps of J.J. Abrams is no easy feat, but Star Trek Beyond really does look impressive so far, and we’re excited to see what Lin has cooked up come July 22nd.
