James Gunn Denies Thor Cameo In Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2

Immediately after this latest Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 rumor started to spiral out onto the web, the film's director quashed it. Immediately after this latest Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 rumor started to spiral out onto the web, the film’s director quashed it. It’s not uncommon for James Gunn to post set photos and scraps of intel from the production. A casting announcement here, an amusing anecdote there, it’s all good, clean fun. But this morning’s Facebook post sent the fanworld into a tizzy, as the helmer can be seen wielding Thor’s iconic hammer, Mjolnir:

It’s easy to see that snap of Gunn clowning around with a prop from the movie and assume that the hammer is only there for one reason: Thor’s in the film. Granted, it’s a terrific idea, as we’ve not seen him since last year’s Avengers: Age of Ultron and it’d be a nice reprieve for the Norse God to pop up alongside the Guardians. His appearance would bridge the gap between the more Earth-bound MCU entries and the far-flung adventures of the Guardians.

After all, we know that the Guardians and the Avengers will team up to battle the MCU’s purple-skinned tyrant Thanos in Infinity War. Seeing Thor unite with the Guardians prior to that two-parter would be the first step to joining the two teams.

But alas, Gunn has since debunked those theories, hitting up Facebook again to set people straight:

Keep your eyes peeled for a glimpse of Thor’s hammer, when Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 careens into theaters on May 5, 2017. Hey, Gunn didn’t rule out the possibility of his weapon having a cameo, did he?
