Long before Suicide Squad roars onto the scene in early August, much of Warner Bros.’ attention will be drawn to The Legend of Tarzan, the studio’s lavish reboot that introduces Alexander Skarsgård as the titular King of the Apes.

And sure enough, nipping at the heels of two moody posters for David Yates’ blockbuster, Warner has premiered the Legend of Tarzan IMAX trailer, serving up three minutes of primordial action that not only tees up Skarsgård’s origins story – returning to his rightful home of Congo after failing to adopt to a gentrified life as John Clayton – but also sheds more light on the key supporting players, including Margot Robbie’s Jane Porter and Christoph Waltz’s decietful Belgian, Captain Leon Rom.

For all of the talent involved in The Legend of Tarzan, it’ll be fascinating to see how Warner’s tentpole fares at the box office in the wake of The Jungle Book and Warcraft – two CG-laden features from earlier in the year that showcased the fine line between success and failure in the blockbuster space. Alas, we’ll find out soon enough.

Also on board for that visually stunning adventure are Djimon Hounsou as Chief Mbonga and Samuel L. Jackson as George Washington Williams. Releasing across 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D, look for Alexander Skarsgård to swing into action as the King of the Apes when Warner’s rebooted The Legend of Tarzan graces theaters on July 1.

The-Legend-of-Tarzan

It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Leon Rom (Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.
