First teased at the tail-end of Joss Whedon’s Avengers movie four years ago, Josh Brolin’s Thanos has spent much of his time in the MCU on the sidelines, comfortably perched on his levitating throne as he concocts his grand masterplan. So far, so predictable.
But with Avengers: Infinity War looming large on the horizon – Joe and Anthony Russo’s two-part event movie – Brolin’s Mad Titan is set to enjoy much more screentime, which will surely portend all kinds of trouble for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, who still need to hug and make up following their internal squabble in Civil War.
When quizzed about Infinity War and, in particular, his preparation for this increased presence, Brolin noted that he’s aiming to find the “humanity” in Marvel’s galactic menace. After showering praise on Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely’s seemingly mind-blowing script, the actor revealed to Comic Book Resources that “there are parts of him [Thanos] that are unfounded to me. Where’s the humanity? [It] will be found. That’s all I’ll say.”
Given that Infinity War is still a full two years away – and that’s just the first installment – Josh Brolin is remaining understandably coy about his portrayal as the power-mongering deity. But after taking it upon himself to collect the Infinity Stones during the mid-credits scene of Age of Ultron, the Avengers will soon face their greatest foe yet when Thanos descends on planet Earth.
Avengers: Infinity War Parts 1 and 2 are booked in for release across May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019, respectively.
