One overlong demo for Pokemon Sun and Moon later and Nintendo ushered The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild into the limelight during its Treehouse presentation yesterday.
That showcase continued long into the afternoon, and the Big N has now published each video segment onto YouTube, resulting in a treasure trove of gameplay for Breath of the Wild that stretches past the one hour mark. Have at them below!
In related news, Nintendo producer and Zelda stalwart Eiji Aonuma revealed that the team had at one stage considered introducing the option of choosing a female protagonist at the beginning of Breath of the Wild – perhaps placing players in the shoes of Zelda in lieu of Link – but as pre-production progressed, the notion was ultimately left on the drawing board.
Cut before it could gain any significant traction, Aonuma’s reasoning for the move was that, “if [Nintendo] places princess Zelda as the main character who fights, then what is Link going to do? Taking into account that, and also the idea of the balance of the Triforce, we thought it best to come back to this [original] makeup.”
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is currently in development for both Wii U and the as-yet-mysterious NX. No word yet of a release date for either, though the Big N has ensured would-be early adopters that the 2017 title will ostensibly offer the same experience across each platform in both gameplay and visuals.
