NetherRealm Plans To Be “More Aggressive” In Their Approach To Injustice 2 DLC

NetherRealm Studios will be trading skeletal spectres, wise-cracking film stars and bicycle kicks for eye lasers, Batarangs and heavily-armored superheroes come 2017 with Injustice 2, but the characters themselves aren't the only feature that the developer wants to make bigger and better in every conceivable way over what's come before.

NetherRealm Studios will be trading skeletal spectres, wise-cracking film stars and bicycle kicks for eye lasers, Batarangs and heavily-armored superheroes come 2017 with Injustice 2, but the characters themselves aren’t the only feature that the developer wants to make bigger and better in every conceivable way over what’s come before.

Speaking to IGN in an interview (via VideoGamer), NetherRealm creative director Ed Boon told the site that one of the main aims of the sequel to Injustice: Gods Among Us is to “support it for a longer period of time,” continuing to state that with each new beat ’em up that the studio has released, they’ve tried “to do more and more” in regards to additional content.

One of the things we’ve been doing, trying to do more and more with every game… is to support it for a longer period of time. With DLC characters, we’ve had four with Mortal Kombat, six with Injustice, eight with Mortal Kombat X, and with Injustice 2 we plan on continuing that pattern. It will certainly be more aggressive than we’ve been in the past.

Assuming the “pattern” follows exactly how Boon plans, we could be seeing at least 10 characters released for Injustice 2 as DLC. No small feat, but there’s certainly enough material for NetherRealm to work with, what with the DC Universe being rammed with all sorts of superheroes.

Injustice 2 launches in 2017 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. A PC version – while not entirely ruled out – won’t be releasing alongside the console versions.
