Ryan Gosling May Join Nicolas Winding Refn’s Only God Forgives

Twitch Film is telling us that they have it on good authority that Ryan Gosling will once again team up with Nicolas Winding Refn for Only God Forgives. Right now Kristin Scott Thomas is attached to the film and Luke Evans is apparently circling a role as well. While Gosling’s involvement hasn’t been confirmed yet by the studio. I wouldn’t doubt it.

The duo marked their first film together with Drive, which has been picking up some positive buzz at various film festivals. They will also be teaming up for the Logan’s Run remake and if Gosling does indeed sign on for Only God Forgives, it would mark the duo’s third collaboration together.

Very often director’s have their muses. Tony Scott has Denzel Washington, Martin Scorsese had Robert De Niro before moving onto Leonardo DiCaprio, QT has Uma Thurman, Ridley Scott has Russell Crowe etc. It’s a pretty common thing in Hollywood and I wouldn’t be surprised if Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling end up falling into this category.

Having not seen Drive, I can’t comment on how well the two work together but I have seen Refn’s Bronson which was quite good and Ryan Gosling is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors, giving powerful performances in films like Blue Valentine and Half Nelson. So based on all that, I’d be happy to see a third collaboration between Refn and Gosling.

The only thing that concerns me with this is where will Gosling find time to do it? His schedule is incredibly busy and with his recent commitment to Gangster Squad, is he even going to have room on his plate for Only God Forgives? Is it possible that he’ll decide to drop out of Gangster Squad to do this instead?

What do you think?

Check out the plot summary for Only God Forgives below.

“Julian is on the run from the British police. He runs a Thai Boxing club in Bangkok which is a front for a drugs smuggling operation. He is well respected within the criminal underworld, but deep in his heart he feels that his life is lacking something. He meets a retired cop, The Angel of Vengeance, and finds out that he has to confront his mother.”
