With a premiere tentatively pegged for early 2017, it’s really too soon for CBS to divulge any specifics regarding its planned Star Trek TV series.

But when quizzed on the status of the reboot at the Saturn Awards, series showrunner Bryan Fuller did drop some tantalizing hints about what we can expect. Drawing upon his experience across Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Voyager, Fuller told Collider that this new show will run for 13 episodes in total, and the writing team already have “the arc of the first season” mapped out.

Furthermore, it’ll retain the series’ trailblazing approach to diversity and deep space exploration, with Fuller noting that CBS wants “to carry on what Star Trek does best, which is being progressive. So it’s fascinating, to look at all of these roles through a colorblind prism and a gender-blind prism.”

Introducing “new crews, villains, heroes and worlds” to ardent Trekkies and newcomers alike, it’s understood that CBS is primed to unveil new information – and possibly a trailer – for the Star Trek series next month.

I imagine around Comic-Con. It’s interesting because normally I love talking about everything, and I’m sort of relieved I’ve been muzzled by CBS on it because I do less interviews, so I can spend more time writing, but I love talking about Star Trek and I love being involved in it, so I’ll be very excited to share when the muzzle comes off of me.

CBS is aligning its Star Trek TV reboot for a premiere in early 2017. Expect more details to surface during Comic-Con next month.
