That dummy finger, eh? The inanimate – seemingly useless – object has been sending players of Resident Evil 7‘s Beginning Hour demo into a huge frenzy ever since it launched, finding themselves stumped as to what purpose it actually serves.

As it turns out, it doesn’t do anything. At least not yet, anyway. Capcom has been sending emails out to Resident Evil Ambassadors though which contains a rather cryptic image of a finger adorned with the caption “The path for now is closed, but patience…”

In other words, if you’re one of those people who’s spent hours trying to figure out what the severed digit does, you should probably just give up now. With that said, the image does seem to suggest that there will be a purpose for it some time down the road, implying that Capcom either intends to update the teaser demo at a later date, or even release a follow-up which contains a solution to the conundrum.

Whatever the case may be, Capcom must be ecstatic that the whole thing has gone viral all over the internet and social networks, in turn generating huge amounts of hype.

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens next – maybe even as long as the release of the full game, which we’ll get when Resident Evil 7 launches for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on January 24, 2017.
