Earlier this year, FX confirmed that they had picked up Legion to series for a first season of eight episodes. That was accompanied by a somewhat uninteresting first official image, but now a new behind the scenes sneak peek has been revealed which offers up a fresh look at the titular character.

Set to debut in early 2017, Legion is the story of a troubled young man who may be more than human. According to what little we know, it will introduce us to David Haller, who since he was a teenager, has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.

Created by Fargo’s Noah Hawley, Legion stars Dan Stevens in the title role and has an impressive ensemble cast made up of Rachel Keller (Fargo), Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation) and Jean Smart (Fargo). It won’t be set in the X-Men movie universe though, so you might as well forget any hopes of crossovers between this show and that world in the near future.

Despite that, the show is still shaping up to be something special, and while this behind the scenes look isn’t massively revealing, hopefully more will follow over the coming weeks.

Comic-Con is around the corner after all, so Legion having some sort of presence at that event makes sense.
